Abstract
The jejunum is very unusual site for any kind of neoplasm, especially for the adenoacanthoma.
Recently authors experienced a case of adenacanthoma in the proximal jejunum and the case is
presented here with review of literature.
The patient was a 35 years old woman who complained of intermittent abdominal pain with palpable
mass in the mild abdomen. Past history revealed the several episodes of melena for two months before
admission.
Physical examination revealed the well-movable hard mass near the umbilicus. Upper G-I study
with barium meal disclosed the stenosis in the proximal part of jejejun. Exploratory laparotomy was
performed on the 2nd hospital day. A hard nodular mass was found in the upper jejunum for which
jejunum was resected about 70§¯ including the mass and the regional lymphodes, and the continuity
of bowel was restored by end-to-end anastomosis. Other viscera were absolutely normal.
Histologic examination revealed the typical squamous cell carcinoma in the jejunum, but in the
regional nodes there was found glandular component in the tumor so the histologic diagnosis being
the primary adenoacanthoma of jejunum.
